Fast Track Your UIF Claims

Avoid standing in long queues like this unnecessarily

Claiming UIF benefits isn’t easy and you may end up wasting time and money if you don’t come prepared. After my bad experience claiming UIF (with multiple return trips), I decided to compile a guide to help others get their application right first time. The handy guide has all the updated info, UIF forms and detailed descriptions on what you need to do to claim your UIF. All you need to do is fill in your email address and I’ll send you the complete guide for free, right now!

P.S. If you’re unsure whether UIF is worth it try my UIF Payments Calculator. It will show you how much you can expect to receive if your claim is successful.

P.P.S Once you’re done submitting your claim try find a new job on Employable

I worked for the company for 5 years. I was retrenched one month ago. To determine the UIF payments, does the salary for the whole period been taken in account, or just a certain period.

      Hello Dries,
UIF is calculated according to your contribution over the last 4 years only using your average salary. Hope this helps!
      Good Luck

    Hi

    Please can you help!

I have been on a fixed term contract since January 24th of this year. The contract expires on 23 December 2011.

I am a weekly salary earner and contribute R33 per week to UIF.

Could you tell me roughly how much i will get each month I claim and how long I am able to claim for?

    Regards

    Bobby

I am currently undergoing a retrenchment process and at the same time am 7 months pregnant. I am due to go on maternity leave in the next two months but now will be unemployed at that time. Do I apply for maternity benefits or unemployment benefits? Please advise with reasons.

My husband lost his job at the end of June 2011 but the employer has not been cooperating with regards to completing the required form. He reported this at the UIF offices and the officer also phoned to request the boss to cooperate but till today he has not obliged. The officer said they have to open a case. What does one do in a case like this especially because 6 months have passed by.

Hi, thanx for a great guide. Much appreciated. I’d just like to ask, with UIF payout are there any deductions made before the money’s paid into one’s account. Just that, with the uif calculator ( awesome) the amount is way less than what my husband got. The person helping him said the system calculates the amount and not him, He has been paying UIF for longer than the max 4 years.

      Hi,
thanks for the kind words. I’m not aware of any deductions…
Are you saying your husband got more than expected? UIF only takes your last four working years and your average salary during this time into consideration.

      Hi Pius,
Not sure what to say as normally resigning from a job excludes your from being able to receive UIF benefits.
Even if you were eligible to receive UIF, you have to apply for it within 6 months of being retrenched (on in your case resigned).
Contact your nearest labour department for more details.
      Good luck!

  18. Hi there
I terminated my employment due to constructive dismissal. I note that there is a item for this on the UI19. Your booklet has not come through the e-mail yet although I have asked for it. Thanks for offering this service. Much appreciated. I need to know what I have to do to claim UIF.

    Hi Andries

I was diagnosed with major depression & with advise from my pshychiatrist & a motivational medical letter she motivated my resignation due to my medical condition. My previous employer declared my reason for termination as Code 6 – Resignation which I thought should have been Code 10 – Illness/Medically Boarded. I did enquirethis with them & they informed me that I signed a letter wishing not to apply for Disability. The reason for this was that I did not see myself being unemployed for 6 months. Please can you give me your thoughts on this.

    Regards
    Esme

Can you claim UIF when retiring? According to another website, you can -provided that you contributed for the last four years and claim within the six month period.
    Is this true?

    • Andries says:

As far as I know you can’t claim after retiring. Give your labour offices a call though, perhaps it’s possible under certain circumstances.

    Hi there

I recently registered for UIF without much of a problem due to the accurate information obtained in your guide. MANY THANKS
I small problem – the Bank Form (UI-2.8) in the Block where it says Information Supplied by (Name of Bank/Post Office Official) they don’t want the name of the Bank they actually want the name of the official signing the document – which is what it says but mine and others in the queue were incorrect.

    Many thanks
